Privacy & terms

Last updated September 4, 2026

No account, we don't sell your data, and TahoeDrive is unofficial. Details below.

No account needed

You can use everything without signing up. We don't ask for your name, email, or login.

If you turn on alerts

We store the routes you subscribed to and an anonymous push token from your browser so we can notify you when chain controls go up or the road closes. That token isn't tied to your identity, and turning alerts off removes the subscription.

If you send feedback

We store your message, the contact you optionally type in, and some technical context about the browser and screen you sent it from. The app sends a little more of that than this form does, because a report like "the status card is cut off" is only fixable if we know what you were looking at. Your IP address isn't stored with it; it's only used, hashed, to keep the form from being flooded.

Analytics

We collect anonymous, aggregate usage to understand what's useful and fix what isn't, including what gets typed into the resort search box. Your browser also keeps a random id in its own storage so repeat visits count as one person rather than many. That id isn't tied to your identity, and clearing your browser data resets it. No personal profiles, and no tracking you across other sites.

We don't sell your data

No data brokers, no third-party trackers. Your use of TahoeDrive stays between you and the app.

Cameras

In the app, camera images load straight from the agency that operates the camera, rather than through us, so that agency's server sees your device's IP address and the usual browser headers, the same as if you had opened its own page. We attach nothing of our own to the request.

Terms of use

TahoeDrive is an independent, unofficial road condition monitor for your personal, non-commercial use. It is not Caltrans, Nevada DOT, CHP, NWS, or any other agency. Those agencies do not endorse it, and it does not replace them. What it shows comes from third-party sources we do not control, under their own terms, and we do not warrant that content.

It is for planning a drive before you leave. It is not a navigation aid, it is not for use while driving, and it is not for emergencies. Do not make it your only source of road conditions: check the official sources below before you go, and go by what is posted when you get there. In an emergency, call 911.

Statuses and alerts are planning aids: they are our reading of official sources, not an agency's. That reading can be wrong, incomplete, delayed, or out of date, including when the underlying feeds are not. Upstream feeds go quiet, sources disagree, and conditions change faster than any app can refresh. Guides describe a road in general, not conditions today. Official information lives at QuickMap, Caltrans, and NVRoads. Obey posted signs and restrictions.

Cameras come straight from the agency that operates them. The image is theirs, and all we add is the choice of which to show and the label on it. A camera can be offline, aimed elsewhere, or showing a frame older than it appears.

Push delivery depends on your browser, your device, and the push service. Alerts may be delayed, skipped, or never arrive. Neither an alert nor the lack of one replaces posted signs and restrictions.

Winter driving in the Sierra is inherently dangerous, in ways no list can cover: roads ice over between readings, storms close passes with little warning, and a route that was open when you left can be shut by the time you reach it. The danger belongs to the road, not to this app. It is yours whether or not you use TahoeDrive, nothing we show removes it, and the decision to drive is yours.

By using TahoeDrive you accept that we provide it as-is, without warranty, and that we are not responsible for travel decisions, delays, closures, chain controls, accidents, or other outcomes that follow from relying on it. To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability to you for all claims relating to TahoeDrive is limited to $100 in aggregate. Any claim must be brought within one year of when it arose. Nothing here takes away rights you have that cannot be waived under the law that applies to you.

We may modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of TahoeDrive without notice. We may update this page as the app changes. The date at the top is when it last changed, and continuing to use TahoeDrive means the current version applies.

California law governs these terms. Disputes will be heard in the state or federal courts of California. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
